The SOPB is currently convening on two assignments from the Legislature.

  1. On March 29, 2022, the SOPB received a request from the Chair of the House Public Safety Committee. This request tasks the SOPB with providing recommendations around sentencing alternatives, including the Special Sex offender Sentencing Alternative (SSOSA), lifetime supervision, Failure to Register (FTR) cases, and “washouts.” For more information on this request, please see the full letter here. A report will be submitted on this request by December 1, 2022.
  2. The SOPB was convened in Chapter 236, Laws of 2021, Sections 14 and 15 to continue its review of sexually violent predators and less restrictive alternative practices and policies through June 2023. For more information, please read the full bill here. Semiannual reports will be submitted to the Legislature on this assignment.
